Going Green Tip #4: Christmas Cards
For those of you sending Christmas cards (or holiday cards or New Year’s cards– whatever you may call them), there’s an easy way to green them up and help reduce the amount of paper in your recycling bin.
Use the cards you received last year.
Pretty simple, huh? EcoKid and I have been hard at work cutting, gluing, and piecing together cards we saved from last Christmas. EcoKid has really enjoyed using scissors, though she hasn’t gotten the hang of it quite yet.
We’ve been dazzling them up with glitter and stickers (because EcoKid has a mild sticker addiction and no craft is complete without slapping a sticky bit on it.)
It’s a fun, easy craft project that can be as elaborate or as simple as you want.
I really enjoy rereading the cards. I get to relive last Christmas a little bit whilst preparing for this one.
So… supplies. We use:
coloured construction paper, folded in half
glue
glitter/ glitter glue
stash of last year’s cards
stickers
EcoKid and I like to snack on mandarin oranges (mandalinas here) while we toil away. It’s important to keep your energy up so you have stamina for the the 87 cards you need to make.
87.
Don’t be surprised if yours doesn’t arrive until Easter. Right now, we’ve completed 12. We need to eat more oranges, apparently.
Hey, your card may be late… but it also may be this one:

EcoMum's work.
Don’t you think that’s worth the wait??? (My friend Mary was the initial sender of this joke; I feel like I should cite her or something to preserve copyright…)
Alternate idea: if you’ve already sent your cards off (keeners!) you can also make gift tags using old cards. Neatly cut images from the cards, punch a little hole, and write on the back.

that’s a great idea. My mother also uses old cards to make gift tags for her gifts. And you could use them to make ornaments for the tree too. I am LMAO! at the senitment on your card…hysterical!

So, uh, what do you do with the inside that has been written on? I love this idea, but being so incredibly un-crafty I am still having trouble wrapping my brain around it!
